Anyone who owns a large pickup, SUV or anything with large heavy wheels will know that checking for movement in Suspension, Steering, Bearings is not an easy one man task.

I have run SUV's for many years and was suprised to learn that my mechanic neighbour had not seen this done before.

Secure a large ring spanner to one of the wheel studs, then without the weight and bulk of the wheel and tire it is possible to exert a force on the hub, in various directions whilst watching for any movement where there shouldn't be any.
