My new (to me) '63 Riley 1.5 has knackered synchromesh on 2nd - a common problem on these cars.

Should I risk a secondhand 'box or should I get the existing one rebuilt?

If secondhand, can anyone suggest where I might find one?
If rebuilt, where can I obtain baulk rings etc?

Suggestions (polite ones that is) gratefully received.

Hi

Why not have a go at fixing it yourself? gear boxs like these are pretty simple, and you are going to have to remove it whatever you do, and it should not take more than a couple of hours to fix.
Moss do all the MGA gearbox bits, and I would imagine the riley wil share some components.

Just double-declutch, problem solved, and you get the satisfaction of doing something that many people can't.

I'd go with UK on this, rebuild it, but take a close look at the whole box, and do a proper job.

It would surprise me if parts werent easily available, and a do it yourself job gives the possibility of upgrades also..

Or maybe source a spare box, rebuild that, then perform the swap over one weekend, that way the car isn't immobilised for too long!! Smile
