Can anyone give me any advice with the following problem?

I have just finished doing a 12v conversion on my Ford 103E pop, everything has gone well and I've had the car running very well.... then.... all of a sudden the car starts well and ticks over without a problem but every so often when you try to accelerate the car loses power and if pushed will stop completely. Its got me stumped. I've checked all the usual suspects: points, carb, all electrics, fuel pump etc. and cant find a problem? It also has started back-firing a lot when you try to accelerate (if it manages to pick up).

has anyone got a suggestion?

Coil?
Similar related problems occur when the coil is creating a weak spark often gets worse when engine gets warm

Sounds like coil to me, as it heats up it shorts internally but is ok when it cools again. A manifold leak in the wiper pipe (if fitted) can also cause similar problems.

Er! Greeney, about this hamster... it was actually the French taunting the English. In English. Wink

Is the 12v coil you've fitted as part of the conversion a known quantity? I did also wonder about ignition timing, but that'd be a constant problem rather than occasional

Historical correctness is something we should all strive for, what about all that crap our history teachers poisoned our minds with? be careful Greeney we may have future generations invading France, egged on by some future Tony Blair as a result of your irony. 'The Hamster conflict' could lay waste to most of Northern France. and parts of Hastings, in times to come. Shocked

Sorry 1stpop, Have you had any luck yet?

Faithfulness to the truth of history involves far more than a research, however patient and scrupulous, into special facts. Such facts may be detailed with the most minute exactness, and yet the narrative, taken as a whole, may be unmeaning or untrue. One must seek to imbue oneself with the life and spirit of the time. One must study events in their bearings near and remote; in the character, habits, and manners of those who took part in them. One must be, as it were, a sharer or a spectator of the action he describes to be a true historian Embarassed

I argued this point successfully during my degree course in Philosophy/Political theory.
Since WWII Germany has disowned it's fallen soldiers and makes little attempt to recover their bodies and give them a decent burial.

My contention was that firstly German soldiers were conscripts from 1935 and as such had little choice about having to go to war, and secondly the ones that were 'Nazi's' had become so after witnessing the greatest turnaround in a country's fortunes ever known, brought about by nationalsozialismus.
I have often thought that without the benefit of hindsight, and subject only to the conditions and knowledge of the day, many of us would have embraced fascism in Germany in the 1930's, just as we may also have supported Communism in the Russia of 1917, or the revolution in France in the 1790's.

Judging History from the perspective of 70 years is like looking at it down the wrong end of a telescope...or in short "You just had to be there!" Wink

Back to the original thread... wasn't it HENRY FORD that said "History is bunk!"
I fear we will never learn the truth about current events in our own lifetimes. Unless we are actually living them first hand:?

I wonder if history forum threads ever stray in to fixing old motors?

I thinks its the nature of the "car"
It encompasses History, art, fashion, philosophy and obsession to name just a few

Pretty successful thread all-in-all. Cured 1stpop's problem, and set the world to rights... Are there any other forums with this sort of success rate?
