After reading this - http://www.realclassic.co.uk/bemw03100600.html - while doing some browsing for classic bikes I decided to search ebay for Chang Jiang.

Found one with about 1 hr to go, put in an offer and I get it next week Very Happy

It starts, stops, drives and has a V5 (registered date Dec 1957) so hopefully a quick(ish) MOT and a summer run.

Anyone have anything similar, or an original BMW R71 (which I'm going to restore it as)

Cool. Cool

But remember to ride with your mouth shut or you'll eat midges, not dust!

It is a Chinese bike made from the original 1931 BMW plans/moulds.

They went from Germany, to Russia and then to China.

You can get a great set of BMW tags to produce a copy that even some experts can't tell apart -

It's got my 12 year old interested in restoration as well Very Happy The Chevy never could.

He bought an MT50 today that needs work. Have told him he has 4 years to get it ready for the road.

Swiss made Condor's look very similar, does it have Scintillia ignition? Not being a computer wiz i will post a link and you can look if you would like. http://www.benvanhelden.nl/Condorclub/condor/580/startpaginaA580.htm also if you would happen to have a pile of parts for 580 series send me an email or a pm. Take care! tt

There a quite a few others that look very similar. Looking at the link you sent, and translating it with babelfish - it appears that the Swiss used the BMW template as well.

It seems that once Germany were beaten in WW1 is was was a free for all for their technology.

Cheers

our sometimes rather stupid Customs laws are so restrictive that i've heard of several of these coming in from China were confiscated and destroyed as illegal; the owners even risked prosecution showing up to accept shipment and were unable to convince the Customs officials that every legal step had been taken. funny how we get nearly everything from China for retail sales but can't privately import a motorcycle.

The guy in the UK who imports them says it's getting difficult to get them registered now - but luckily mine has plates already.

Have it home and it goes for it's MOT on Tuesday Smile

I'm desperate to take it out for a ride, let alone jumping walls. It's never stopped raining long enough this week and the helmet I ordered is too small.

I'm hoping for a new delivery in the morning and some sun Smile
