Hi
I'm having a problem with my vehicle (Triumph Vitesse MK2 convertable) when accelerating under pressure - ie going up hill. She just looses all power. I've done a general service and replaced all the usual and she runs sweet when on the flat.Only other thing to add - her points were looking as if she had been running rich. I'm hoping to pull a classic 2 berth caravan with her soon but would not trust her to do it at the moment.
Has anyone else come across a similar situation? Or have any helpful hints?
Thanks
Steve |

Hi Steve
presume you mean plugs not points look as if it running a bit rich? if its running just a tad rich you wouldn’t expect the symptoms you describe.
I'd look for a leak in the induction system, do a visual check of all pipes etc, if you have a vacuum gauge even better. If it has Stromberg carbs the check the rubber diaphragm is not perished, if it is this, you will need to re-set the mixture after its replaced, and make sure you have the right dashpot oil and it is filled up.
When you did the service did you check the ignition timing, if not I'd do this anyway both at idle and advance, retarded ignition can give the symtoms you describe. If you have adjusted or replaced the points you should reset the timming anyway.

I'd go straight to the ignition timing....if thats ok, its possibly the bob weights in the distributor that have seized, or the vacuum pipe is leaking... |
