My Traction has what feels like a hard rubber fuel line running from engine to fuel tank, it is connected by a metal pipe in the glass topped SEV pump.
It runs under the body through a triangular section which also act as floor strengthener.
the question is; what do you suggest I replace it with metal pipe or are there quality plastic equivalents

Hard nylon piping has been used since the 1960's on most British cars (eg Minis/Rovers) for low pressure petrol systems just clipped underneath the floor - in come s in black or white/clear and in 6 or 8 mm diameters. Olives and nuts etc can be got from airline (compressor suppliers as they use it too along with breweries to draught beer dispensers from the barrels/casks
It is very durable although it can be cut with a sharp knife as petrol thieves know.
Alternatively some use copper micro-bore tubing in it varous sizes 8mm being the most useful - all fittings can also be used solder or compression. It can work harden just as with the brake lines - Knunifer do the CuNi alloy which is much harder and almost indestructible _________________ Rover P2

I used a clear nylon for the 2CV and thought of that, but also looked at automec cunifer pipe, the original on the car is just steel and in bad condition. I thought copper would be too soft

My vote would go for a metal pipe. If you had a fire somewhere would it melt a plastic pipe and add to the blaze?

I'm now very wary of rubber pipe it having provided the most difficult to find fault I've ever experienced. A few years ago my Standard 10 started to suffer from lack of fuel. Everything was tried and many hours spent underneath changing pipes etc.' It turned out to be a, new looking, short braided rubber hose. It had formed it's own non-return valve! It didn't leak petrol, but allowed the pump to pull in air. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special.
