hi
I now need to take my head off my 1934 Wolseley 1l ohc engine to investigate a lack of compression in two cylinders. I have spare headgaskets, but have no idea of what I should torque the head to on reassembly. I was thinking about 45lb (gleaned from another thread on this forum for a Rily 1.5), but does anyone know for sure? or have a better guess?

cheers

Hi

The figure for my 1939 morris 8 is; 43lb, for ref it has 10mm head studs, and both head and block are cast iron.

Cheers Dave

Thanks Dave
Sounds like the low 40's is correct then, I wonder how much "margin of error" there is ie if I overtighten by 10lb,I pull studs out, undertighten by 5 and blow the gasket?

Good question, I would tend to use the lower end inf there is a range, on the basis that a when studs snap the tend to be flush with the block and can be a real pain to remove, as a certain administrator of this site will confirm Wink
