Well had her for a year now and apart from routine servicing have just enjoyed the experience. There are a few bodywork items that require attention now and have added the wheels recently..Ok not a period add on but the extra width and lower profile of the tyre,s make cornering a little more stable when keeping with modern traffic.Over the winter period I hope to fit twin carbs with the appropriate manifold and exhaust and possibly another head .Will stick with the 948cc Motor but I would just like to pep it up a little for those do or die roundabout moments during rush hour..most of the time when other modern cars are urging me to move quicker they fail to realise that I am doing my best and the little austin is giving its all!.

Hi Downton, welcome to the forum. Are they Downton manifolds that you're going to fit on?? I have a Mk1 A40 too, albeit some way from seeing the road again Wink I guess you saw this Speedwell A40 literature on the main site, in the tuning section?

Hi Rick..how did you guess!! Tuning section was well and truly read! Unfortunately the manifold is standard early Midget item off a 1967 car.Given how popular the A40 was its scary how few remain today...Body panels and brightwork are so difficult to obtain and because of this prices are high preventing some cars that are restorable from being done.Have just sourced some more 2nd hand parts for mine but luckily thanks to the popularity of that trusty A series mechanical parts are plenty..Thanks for the welcome ...Wilf

When mine was on the road, it had a head from an MG1100 and a single 1 1/4 SU carb on it, made a huge difference. It'd wind its way up to an indicated 85 quite easily. I had it on radial tyres too, although the crossplies gave a smoother ride, if a lot less grippy!

Any updates on the A40? I like the rostyles, think they suit it well! Smile

Hi Rick, nothing as yet! Stunned its 2008 as I have no idea where 2007 went!..Managed to pick up a set of twin carbs off a 67 midget complete with manifold & filters but not had time to fit them.Hoping to do a little more this year! Also would like to see some of the top hat series this year as there are a couple of nice A40,s racing in that.Have been investigating Loton Park hill climb as well as thats only an hour or so from me.Thought it would get easier as the kids got older...they just got more expensive and demanding...then my first grandaughter arrived 2 years ago and well she has me running in circles!! Shocked

Hi Downton, did you see this tweaked A40 on ebay?? must have been a fun ride although it looks a little sad now. An A40 or A35 with a breathed on 1275 must be quite a fun little motor Smile
