|

Having been out and about on the drive it day, and having suffered a few "issues" I did a compression test this morning - the results of which were 111, 112,115, 90 psi on a cold engine, so I have dropped the sump and removed the lowest piston. When it came out 1/2 of one of the piston rings was missing (bits of it in the sludge in the sump. Now, can I source just a piston ring of the correct dimensions ie 60mm and rectangle profile and fit this straight back? and does anyone know where I might get one?
I know to do a "proper" job I should hone the cylinder, but I don't want to take the head off, and also I suspect that would then put this cylinder's compression above the others. I hope that although the readings are low, if they are equalish it should be ok

Hi I have had similiar problems getting rings for my 1932 BSA Vtwin Trike engine.
Eventually I tried my local engine rebuilder and they widened the gap the ring seats in and supplied wider rings.
This has worked well for the last few years. regards Kels. |

Rick - where did you get your rings made up, as it looks like I might have to go down this route. I have a full set of +30 and +40 pistons, so I could re-bore and use these but this seems silly as the engine does not warrant a full rebore, just for one ring!
(unfortunately the other pistons have different ring designs) _________________ North Essex,UK - Morris 8 tourer 1936 - Jaguar x350 |
