Peter, I think you are missing the obvious, I think it is a pump for a suspension system. _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1

Hi Nic,
If it were maintaining a pressurised suspension I suspect it would take a rather greedy share of the dynamo output. The motor looks similar to a starter motor.

It is interesting though whatever it is, as it took some serious tin bashing to position it there.
It also looks as though it may be the thing on test when the picture was taken, as it seems to be wired up whilst one battery terminal is off. If the 2 pictures belong together them maybe it was the powerpack for the hood, though there seems to no similar device on the test rig.

It's in the wrong place for a starter or hood motor so what else can it be, maybe it's a KERS. _________________ 1936 Morris 8 Series 1

A friend has just bought an MG SA and Cecil Kimber would never release one for road test by the motoring press. I was curious to know how it performed and got to reading the Autocar road test for the Wolseley 18/80 which uses the same twin carb engine as the SA and weighs about the same.

Anyway, I see in that road test that there was a small pressure gauge on the Wolseley dashboard and a switch which permitted the pressure in the shock absorbers to be altered. I guess Nic was correct in his suggestion for the 6/80.
