I need to identificate this engine: Date, model...etc. As detailed as possible.

Look at the code in the block and the bell housing.

Thanks.

Hi Tino,

Welcome to the forum. The engine is from a Vauxhall Victor introduced in 1961. It came in various versions. On the cylinder head between spark plugs 2 and 3 there will be a letter H or L stamped indicating whether 8.1:1 or 7:1 compression ratio. There was also a twin carburettor model with a 9.3:1 compression ratio.
The engine numbers of the single carb versions are prefixed with the letters FBY. The twin carb (VX4/90) version was prefixed with FBX.

The engine number is stamped on a boss on the crankcase next to the fuel pump.

Hope this helps.

Peter

Hi Peter, thanks for your response.

I will see if there are the letter H or L, but have you seen the codes in the block that appears in the photo?

"WMC" "23115/4" and in a pad: "1810 J", are these codes the identification of the engine?

There is a web page in which the engine and Vauxhall model codes are explained in detail, but the code above does not correspond with anything.

the page is: http://personal.inet.fi/cool/makkes.garage/codes.html

Hi Tino,

Yes, I saw the numbers on your block but I don't know what they represent.
One may be the part number and others perhaps relate to the casting process.

I think your engine is from the FB series.

Differences between the VX4/90 and the normal Victor are: Alloy cylinder head, copper lead centre main bearing, solid skirt pistons and cam angle changes.

What are you hoping to do with the engine?

Peter

The numbers are casting numbers. Part numbers would be different and not on the parts.
There should be an engine number on the block, usually stamped onto a machined surface

Hello to all. My name is Tino and i am a new fan of classic cars. I owned an 1922 Amilcar with a vauxhall engine i don´t know. I need help from a vauxhall specialist to identificate this engine (which model, year, etc) detailed.
Sorry for my horrible english. I promise to learn it any day. Embarassed

Regards.

Is this the Vauxhall engine which is fitted in the Amilcar, or have I got it wrong and you have an Amilcar and the Vauxhall engine is something totally seperate?

Iagree with 47p2---all exterior surface mounted numbering denotes casting modules. This actual block is derived from early "E" series wyvern models--i would say the block in the picture is comparable to late FB or even the FC.Early models had an interior mounted chain tensioner and the later ones had a fully adjustable square pin located on the base of the chain housing(as in picture).

This engine is mounted in the amilcar. Of course, is not the original engine. Actually, I am restoring this car with engine in a garage, but i need to know what type of engine is for search the parts exactly. Later, if i have money, i will search an original engine Amilcar.
This car is owned the father of my wife more 40 years ago, and now he is died, so i dont know which engine is it.

The engine number should be stamped in just above the fuel pump mounting

I find in the head the letter "H" stamped between spark plugs 2 and 3, and the number "6346103" stamped between spark plugs 1 and 2.
The letter "H" corresponding with compression, but the other number??.

I´m crazy with this engine. Rolling Eyes

The seven digit number is probably a part number, my FC parts manual gives similar numbers for cylinder heads, it could be your engine is earlier, maybe FB.
