we are trying to keep our Anglia going just a little bit longer until engine rebuild ,sorry but the weather is so nice here at the moment,Australia, with many events on ,oil pressure has never been great but we did a few trips of 100 miles or so ,a few weeks ago engine got a slight knock ,removed the head ,found a couple of pistons swiveling slightly ,dropped sump ,found remnants of small end bushes ,big ends looked ok, nothing we could do anyway ,so we did small ends ,honed bores and new rings ,fired up and ran nice and quiet ,did about 10 miles ,running great, then oil pressure dropped and we hear grumbling sound not knocking ,backed off and nursed it home, dropped sump again, bearings have no apparent damage ,do these engines have any gallery blockage issues or is time to do it properly ,side cover gallery has gunk build up at centre hole and along runners but wouldnt say total block .any miracles accepted ,thanks from Rod

Hi Rod,

The simplest thing to check might be your oil pressure relief valve. It's not
adjustable on your engine but it could be worth checking for wear on the plunger and its seat. It's located at the front of the crankcase above the timing gears. Wear in the oil pump gears and body are less easy to check.

Worn or fatigue fractured mains bearing might be the next easiest thing to check.

If these don't provide the answer then worn camshaft bearings can allow lot of oil pressure to leak away.

HTH

Peter

I haven't owned a Pop since the sixties but then we used to go the scrap yard at Jacks Hill on the A1, buy an engine for £5.00 from a scrap car and fit it in the adjoining car park. The big ends always went on those engines.

thanks for replys ,we dropped sump checked what we could visually ,fitted new side cover gasket and checked relief valve ,made sure oil coming up from pump, reassembled ,got about 20lb oil pressure ,runs fine no knocks ,just a grumble at one point in mid revs ,hardly noticable but its there so the end is near ,we will nurse it through, got one more event in a couple of weeks we want to make ,15 miles away so should make it ,car had been on blocks for 25 years ,not run, so considering the trips its done since it has done well ,we have a spare engine and plan to build shortly ,just hate to not be driving ,thanks again for replys.........Rod
