Hi all

Does anyone know of a supplier for brake / clutch lining rivets? pref UK based. I have a large coil of brake lining material but no rivets!, have tried a number of model engineering suppliers they only seem to stock solid copper / brass rivets, I need semi hollow. Have also tried Crewe engineering Supplies, to no avail.

Cheers Dave

UK, I've got bucketfulls of the things here. But I would need to know the correct size to make sure that I have the correct ones.

Otherwise, if they are still around, try Ariel Fasteners Ltd. in Leicester.

Shouldn't your rivets be brass?

Hi UJ

They need to be 0.15" diameter 0.37" total length and semi hollow. I have enough to do 1 pair of shoes (8 per shoe) so need another 32.

As you can see from the picture these are copper, but I have had both copper and brass supplied with shoes before.

UK, do you know the length excluding the head, and also the head diameter?

I think that the rivets should be 9/64, but they have a dia. of 0.14"

Did you try Ariel? They are still operating. Otherwise, try an aircraft parts supplier, (for Cessnas or something, not 747's!) Laughing

I am having a simmilar problem with buying imperial castleated nuts, any ideas?

Cheers

Buzzy, are your nuts and bolts imperial as in BSF/Whitworth, or imperial as in UNF/UNC?

Just curious!

Measuring with an imperial vernier gauge (always struggle converting into fractions!!)

Total length is 0.370”
Rivet diameter 0.150”
Head Diameter 0.272”
Head thickness 0.033”

Dave

Tried to find Ariel on the interweb no luck !

Ah UK, you know what I mean then...just wait until you start working with motorbikes, and mix in BSC, and half a dozen others. Then Metric (ISO J) and metric (ISO E)... Shocked

I think from what I have bought recently to fit the ford, there seems to be a good mixture!

UK, I'll have a look tomorrow or Friday to see if I can find any in the correct size. If I have, the only problem is getting them to you.

Ariels website is www.arielfasteners.com phone number is 0116 273 6541.

Otherwise, I have a couple of contacts in the US... at least they still use proper measures over there... sensible people! Laughing

My very first car in the 1980's was an old Simca 1301, half the brake pipes were imperial and the other half metric and that was standard from the factory !

UK, I 'm sorry but I cant match the size. I have both larger, and smaller, but nothing identical. I had a look on the webpage of my stateside supplier, they have SIMILAR, but not the same, so I doubt if even they have anything. It seems to me like they an odd size, but I'm not sure.
