Am having old tyres removed from split rims. The wheels are built in two parts with the two parts riveted. Not sure where the vehicle has been stood but before the two parts are tightly in contact there is a lead in that is filled with hard sand and rust scale. Removal of the sand and scale leaves a full cicumference band of pitting at least half the origial wall thickness gone, this may be the case for all 5 wheels. I have doubts now to there integrity.
I would have no problem "buttering" the pitted area, and can get them stress relieved after welding.
Have just purchased four new 700x20 tyres, tubes and flaps for wheels.
Any thoughts, scrap wheels, replacements, alternatives? |
