Hi all,
Just joined the forum, after having my enquiry about the Sceptre/Rapier posted earlier. I'm in Canberra, capital of Australia and while my special interest is Rootes cars, I love all old classics
Thought I would post pics of my cars:
1963 Sunbeam Alpine
1969 Hillman Hunter
Cheers, Vic

Hi Vic,
Welcome to the forum. I too have a soft spot for Rootes cars and was a Series IV Alpine owner some years ago. The Hunter was an interesting leap for Rootes. The old heavy Minx and its stablemates were clearly put in their place by the Cortina and the Hunter was a really good competitive offering unlike the Marina which served the same function in the BL/Leyland empire.
Nice to see them being well looked after.

Thanks for the comments about my cars. I have haad the Alpine since 1982 when I bought it as a cheap runabout - along the way I have fully restored it. The Hunter I got a couple of years ago, from a woman who had been given the car (brand new) when she started university in 1969. She had kept it ever since and it has always been maintained and on the road. It has lots of minor blemishes, but you can drive it anywhere.
As for Californians, I know two people with them over here, both in quite good condition and on the road under 'classic car' registration (licence) - this type of registration allows only limited use (like for club events) but is about 1/10th the cost of full registration. One is in western Victoria (several hundred kilometres from me) and the other in Longreach Queensland (about 2000km away) - I have pics of both somewhere and wil try to find and post them. |
