Hi all,
I have a DS420 with the jag 4.2 engine fitted.
It has developed a funny little knocky noise (like a light tapping) when idleing. Just does it for a few seconds, like tap, tap, tap, tap...then nothing, then about five mins later same again.
I've not had it long so no history. It does run a bit rough, despite overhauling Carbs and jumps about a bit if idle below 700.
Any Jag mechainics offer a bit of advice? Tips what to look for?

I seem to recall that the valve guides can come loose on these engines and cause a tapping noise. I believe there is a repair involving fitting a plate to hold them down.
