What a shame, and ironic that the original Liberty Belle was also lost to fire.

hi
Looking at the pics, it appears that all 4 engines had been stopped and it was running on it's undercart, then the tail wheel track shows moving to starboard.
I wonder if it was a dead stick landing.

Very sad! Maybe there is still enough left to make it restorable.

Peter.

From the latest photos, maybe the engines and possibly the landing gear can be salvaged. The fuselage was totally destroyed.

A Skyraider had a coming-together with a P51 at Duxford over the weekend too, the 'raider managed to land (minus a fair chunk of starboard wing), while the P51 went into a field and looks to be pretty much destroyed. Fortunately the pilot jumped out at low level, with just enough height for his parachute to deploy, so no fatalities fortunately.

A good bit of filming. A great pity about the subject.
Looking for information about the incident yesterday I found a picture of a Fokker Triplane (replica?) stood on its nose at the same event. A very eventful event!
