Hi guys, new member here, I am coming to the end of a 5 year restoration of my 1954 Sunbeam Alpine 2 seater roadster seen here and have just found this site so thought I would introduce myself and post a link with further details & photos. The site text is pretty old now as I got bored with all the updating but there are loads of photos. When I get round to it I'll re-write the lot !
Here's the link to my site :

Beautiful car! I always loved the old Alpine although I only ever owned a Rapier and and low finned Alpine.
Have you managed to tace any previous owners or history for your car?

Ah well here's the story. When I bought this car 30+ years ago I had the original green log book with the names on it. I tried to contact some of the previous owners but gave up .. probably all to easily .. but I was a lot younger in those days.
Anyway time moves on and the car's documentation was "lost" during my divorce along with some of the rarer spares I had. So alas that document is long gone. But the registration EX places it in the South East coastal area I believe although the archivist from the club told me it was originally exported.
The wiki entry for Alpines http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunbeam_Alpine quotes 1582 of these were made and I know that the vast majority went to USA, remainder to UK and smaller numbers exported to Australia, South Africa and I believe Southern Ireland.
Having had every nut & bolt off the car I can find no trace of a LHD to RHD conversion so if it was used abroad it stayed RHD. Where it went to and when it came back over here is a mystery. But I bought it in 1978 from a car dealer in Streatham, South London (that's since been demolished) and apart from a couple of years use in the early days its been in lock-ups ever since until 5 years ago when I decided to restore it. Hopefully this summer it will be on the road once more.
