I wonder if its just me reminiscing or something, but are there any others out there that watch old films and TV programmes just to see the cars of that period in their original condition?

I wonder what happened to some of them? I do know where THX138 is though!!

THX - is that the bright yellow machine???

Watching old films is great, I like the 50s black and white films mainly as the street scenes are usually more fascinating than the plots Smile the film Genevieve (a colour film about veteran motors) is a nice film to watch, and the colour scenes of old cars and lorries driving by is well worth sitting down for!

Rick, with that possibly being the best known car in films, I would have suggested an automatic ban for forum members who didnt know what it was! Laughing

Only last night, I caught a Roger Moore film, shot in Siciliy, where I think he was in a Dodge (or very similar) bus... Surprised

I'm beginning to wonder if the programme producers have started to add classics to their programmes to get more male viewers? i'm thinking about things like Morse, Inspector Lynley, Kingdom, Country Hospital and of course Heartbeat. All we ever see here is Volvos! Crying or Very sad

saying that, I've never watched A G Embarassed

I think they add classics to give the programmes a touch of gravitas, or style. The only thing people remember about Bergerac in the 80s was his Triumph Roadster, and Morse like you say is remembered for the Mk2

Give me more programmes with Volvos in, thats what I say Wink

No limits is brilliant! 'turned out nice again!" Laughing

On any Sunday should be more readily available, it's many years since I've seen it, as for old cars in the background of films how about the league of gentlemen, it's full of 'em - and it was in colour! Cool

I won't even mention the Swiftmobile (vintage Bentley with outrageous bodykit)that Dennis Price sold Ian Carmichael in 'The School for Scoundrels' Shocked
Don't forget those continental films of the 50s and 60s, always shot in black and white. In 'La Dolce Vita' (1960) Marcello Mastroianni drives a Triumph TR 3A and one of the female characters a Cadillac convertible, surely the one and only time that either of those cars was the ultimate in cool Cool Wink

Should we start a list? Maybe even categories for era's, racing, etc.

A few of my favorites are:

"The Hot Spot"........Studebaker Hawk
"Spin Out"...............Shelby Cobra, Dusenberg, McLaren Elva M1A, and many more.
"Mischief"..............'50 Studebaker Champion, '55 Chevy Convertible, & more.
"Hollywood Knights"............Lots of hot rods!
"The Lively Set"...........Rods, racing, and the Chrysler Turbine car.
"To Please A Lady"........Midget, Big Car, & Indy racing and others.

Think I'll start working on a list in my spare time. Very Happy

Interesting website, but it does take the fun out of things....

After admittedly only a quick glance, I didnt see the Lincoln in 'Fish called Wanda' though, or even Cannons Lincoln, so I guess even that site is not complete....I wonder if anyone else can think of similar examples that are missing?
