I didn't realise they could climb so quickly!, love the worker smoking his pipe whilst work on the balsa and glue construction!!

Propaganda film. The things I was told about the superiority of our fighters, when a child in the forties, was somewhat exaggerated.

It was many years before they told us how good the Japanese Zero really was.

Unfortunately these aircraft suffered with de-lamination [glue separation] which may have been fault that caused some of them to crash but at the time they filled a need and of course being made of wood it saved the ally for more urgent aircraft.

All the references I have seen for this were related to the aircraft submitted to the heat and humidity of the Pacific theatre. Not the home front for which they were really designed and tested.
Such a shame. I believe the adhesive was a lactose (animal derived) product. Probably modern adhesives would not have behaved the same.
