I wonder why people are put off from buying this house?? Smile I've been past it on the nearby railway line a few times, one or two would be ok but I'm not sure about all of them...

Hi
Darwin Award, he had heard of this hobby, train spotting, where people collect engine numbers and names. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Last year I decided to take my Gentry to Wales and for somewhere to sleep I took my Romini Caravan, parking it at the Beddgelert Forest site which actually has a Welsh Highland Railway narrow gauge station ON SITE!

Now I just had to ride on that and one thing led to another and I finished up with a collection of moving shots of several, but not all, of the things in Wales which run on rails.

It amused me to string some of the better ones together and call it "Training in Wales". It may amuse some of the steam enthusiasts on here (I hope).

I don't know what happened to this link, but it seems to work. Unfortunately it gets a bit blurry if expanded to full screen.

Hi
If you are into railwayana and are near Manchester you might like to have a look in here.

http://www.stalybridgebuffetbar.co.uk/

It's like a railway museum collection with the added attraction of real food and real ale.

10 pumps, 8 ale/beer, 1 perry and 1 cider plus 7 taps ,6 ale/lager, 1 cider

The other day I found a section of the vast BBC website featuring archive steam programmes - some from waaay back. Sometimes the quality isn't great, but well worth a look: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/collections/p01277qd/steam-railways

Hi
A new series of M Portillo's Great British Railway Journeys has just started BBC2 on iPlayer for 3 weeks.
BUT does anybody recpgnise the opening credit locations?
The second clip (with the blue train)has an airfield in it.
Might have been the same credits in the earlier series' but I didn't notice it then.
edit
Different opening credit in the second episode and the airfield showed in the closing credits.

thanks Penman.
Something I was aware existed in the past, but only ever seen still pictures of (and not many of those!).
I wonder if the loco crew and passengers got sea-sick? The rocking of the Loco was very pronounced.
Thanks also Bitumen Boy for posting here so that I got email notification for a very interesting post I had missed.
Jim.

Hi
There is a short length of replica line, with a diesel-powered replica loco and rolling stock, at Listowel http://www.lartiguemonorail.com/

The last 2 episodes of Welsh steam were the best. Archive footage takes some beating.

Some for Penman here. This particular railway in Comrie,Pertshire,is a 7.25" gauge private passenger carrying railway which is not normally open to the public.
The owner Bob Smith is a leading light in the 7.25" gauge railway movement & has developed & expanded this railway over the last 20 years.
The classic car connection was a visit arranged by the Scottish Western Thoroughbred Car Club in 2008.

Cheers,JD.
