I'm not sure my head for heights would cope too well, has anyone here tried hot air ballooning? After what happened in Egypt recently I can see bookings generally slowing, for a while at least.

maybe things wouldnt go so bad if it had a proper operator, instead of a camel jockey.

this is not a solo incident, there were a interwiev on the Danish news, with a couple, who had a simelar experience in Egypt not long ago.

You will have seen that same balloon Rick, they frequently take off from Whitchurch, and go in the direction of the air currents!, there is also a blue one with Stan Something written on it, apparently they often take off at similar times, as it did when we flew, it was behind us, with Whitchurch in the background.

Keeping the aviation theme, we flew over the old RAF Tilstock base at Prees, you can make out the old overgrown runways

Very interesting to see the RAF Tilstock photos, if you're driving that way you can walk through and amble around the remains of all the old buildings. Some are pretty poor now, but fascinating nonetheless. The airfield gets a good write-up in a book on Shropshire airfields, detailing some of the prangs that took place.

It was a great experience, the landing was a tad dramatic Shocked as they often are, the pilot wanted to avoid planted crops, so attempted to land at the edge of a field...over shot and the balloon envelope straddled a hedge and a road Shocked ripping the envelope on landing (which was at 90 degrees at the end!)

30 seconds after landing the pilot was phoning a firm about a repair, which was organised for the next day Very Happy

There was a fatal accident at Alice Springs, some years ago. My mates best man and wife were killed, they did not have any children. Before they left home they hid her jewels in the garden, around the house. They were never found again even with a metal detector.

The views are amazing, but I'm still not sure I'd go up myself. Smile
