Hi, Rick do you have any control over that E-Bay header ? They only seem to put up high priced cars now. I do not click onto any of them.

Hi Mog,

the criteria for the cars that appear is based on age of vehicle, not price.

No idea why, but obviously I don't go out of my way to have 2001 cars appear

Not on mine, all I see is a Halfords banner if I scroll right down to the bottom but that's quite sometimes useful, 30% off oil this weekend. It depends on your browser I imagine, at the moment I'm using Firefox with the Adblock Plus add-on.

Yes, there is a nice 1926 Rolls for sale. 140,000 quid , how many members can afford that ? How about a 1994 Mercedes 1,195 quid , is that a classic ?

I would just like the E-bay ads. to be related to this forum. Just my opinion.

I don't think Rick has the time or money to sit at the screen 24/7 to moderate and modify the ebay adverts.

They don't worry me, or make coming to this forum any less enjoyable.

If I go onto a forum or website I accept it as it is, I don't expect it to be changed just to suit me.

Like Television, don't like don't look.

Same goes with other threads, if it don't meet your own personal criteria don't expect it to be deleted or changed just because you don't like it.

You could run AdBlock in your browser and not see any ads again, on any web site. I had a complaint from a user of the forum I moderate that the adverts were a bit risque - what he hadn't appreciated is that they'd powered by Google Ads which relates the adverts individual users see to the web sites they browse!

At least you can take countermeasures against irrelevant ads, pity the same can't be done about irrelevant topics.

But if everyone did that, the free-to-access internet would contract pretty quickly. That'd be like a magazine or newspaper publisher offering an alternative version of their output, but with no advertising in it to support its creation and ongoing maintenance.

Running sites, like printing magazines, can be an expensive game and has to be supported somehow.

The alternative to support forums like this is subscription; like the Times on line, £104 per year?
We have adverts on TV for things we don't want or can't afford, it pays for the programs ! and don't forget on the internet its as much about tempting you on to the site rather than selling the specific item.

I've had a fiddle with the banner*, hopefully the cars shown will be a little more to everyone's taste Smile

It also now has a horizontal scroll incorporated within it, see the green arrow buttons top right of the box.

*ad blocker users won't see this

And keep in mind that eBay sellers are continually trying to find ways to get their 'irrelevant' stuff featured in your searches. I regularly find F**d stuff in listings because it will say for example "Ford Escort not Firenza Chevette Dolomite" etc. I get listings for throttle sensors with "will fit Firenza" even though the car doesn't have one (and no I don't mean the Oldsmobile of the same name).

Sellers try everything to get you to see their items, there's only so much you can do to deal with it.
