I like most period programs and love to see the period props and cars used but cringe when I see them get it very wrong and Foyles war seem to do it more than most. In the last series set in about 1945 Foyle was seen to use a 1948/49 P3 rover and in the latest one screened last week set in 1946 one scene shows a rout master London bus which dates from the mid 1950s when it should have been an ST or even an roof box RT which there are some in presivation even a late non roof box RT would have been better of which there are many in collections and are often seen at bus shows. seem a shame when they get things wrong when a simple search on the web would give them all the info they need. sorry should have put this in the general section

I agree but most viewers would not notice it.
It happens all the time. I believe there is a powerboat in the film Mrs Brown and that was Victorian. Well spotted .

The Citroen was a late Traction with the long boot from '52 onwards as well.

I suspect that it's getting harder and more expensive to procure old cars for TV drama now.

Firstly I have thoroughly enjoyed this brief run of Foyles War I think it's an excellent series. Secondly I feel that generally they do pretty well with the cars, although I agree about the Rover P4. However I must confess that being a Londoner the RM bus stuck out immediaty as totally wrong in that setting among pre-fabs and bomb craters... An old RT would have been far better.

I guess there's a RT shortage in Ireland where much of Foyle's War is filmed.

I can't say I've really noticed many bloomers in past series but last night I watched an episode of the Cold War series and was rather surprised to see that the nice authentic looking tax disc of the Rover was held to the screen by a clear plastic holder!

Maybe it was a deliberate indictment of poor maintenance in the post war era but it troubled me that the driver's side wiper in Foyle's Wolseley was operating on a totally wrong arc.

Phew! This anorak is really too warm.

Hi Ashley,

There are two different forms of wiper clutch. My SS was originally fitted with one that involved pulling the knob towards you to release the clutch and this made it very difficult to raise the blade over the screen frame and caused the arm to slip on the shaft but later I discovered that an improved design of clutch operates more sensibly by pushing to disengage and I no longer have the shaft slip problem.

I see in last nights episode he's dumped his Hillman 10 in favour of another Wolseley but they still start up round the corner & arrive with a cold engine having supposedly driven miles,cheers,JD.

I realised while watching Poirot earlier tonight that I knew who did it because I remembered Captain Hastings in his Lagonda following one of the suspects who was driving a Railton Fairmile, from the last time it was on. The fact that he looked about as inconspicuous as the Last Night of the Proms while doing this only confirmed that my little grey cells were working

Does anyone else do this? Sometimes the cars seem almost as typecast as the actors

We noticed the nice black Hillman Minx, I do recall him driving himself in a Riley in one of the earlier series? I wonder why they only make 3 episodes at a time?
