Its a water temperature gauge. Originally these cars had two lights to show water temp. One was low, the other high....simplicity at it best!

By the looks of one of the photo's, that car was probably at The Nats.

Indeed it was. My friend Mark shipped it over last year - superb example.
The ebay ad was, according to him, 'to test the water' - I believe he's changed his mind & is keeping it. Sad

Joe, your pic was posted today 'cos I ended up being too busy yesterday.
Watch for the Postie!! Wink

What used to look like this....

now looks like this...

All that I now need are for the rest of the parts to arrive from the US. Has anyone other than Scotty guessed what I am up to with the 300? I did touch on this on another topic though... Very Happy

UJ

I have.

You are painting some old bits of American cast iron - probably to cover up the poor quality of the castings.

Don't know why you think we should be interested.

BrianM: Did yesterdays earthquake give you a concussion, or do you have another problem?

On second thoughts, Volvo owners cant get concussion, they need a brain first!

UJ

Re Earthquake: I wouldn't mind a concussion - it's a conception I don't want, I woke to the wife asking if the earth had moved for me as well. Trouble is I don't remember a thing!

So whats with the personal insult? I only asked if you thought the painting of a bit of old iron was of any interest and you insult millions of Volvo owners including about half the population of your adopted country.

One member has already challenged your comment (thanks Penman) and I think the least you should do is to publicly admit that Volvo owners are intelligent, discerning car owners.

UJ

So was I.

But I still think you should offer an apology, otherwise I will send your original post to every Swedish classic car magazine and you will be beseiged by some very angry Volvo owners.

All of whom will be using their brains to plan some sort of retribution.

Updates on restoration progress are just the kind of post I hoped would be in this category of the forum, and I'm all for more of the same. I for one am interested, and hope UJ continues to post updates on his restoration. If you don't agree Brian then so be it.

I don't blame UJ for being a bit narked at this reply to his post. I post mini-updates on work I'm doing all the time, and encourage everyone else to do the same, as often or as infrequently as they wish. No other member should feel like they can't post, just because someone might come back with a comment like "Don't know why you think we should be interested".

This spat about Volvo vs American is getting bloody silly, and I say this as an owner of both a Volvo and an American vehicle.

I thought that I would lighten things by posting this poem (again!). It was found in a road test of one of the 300 Letter series cars. Were journalists better before as they can come up with something like this?

A is for alphabet, which is how you tell them apart.
Its also for action, which you get in this cart.
B is for big, which it is undeniably, while
C is for Chrysler who make it and sell it.
D is for devices which this car overflows with.
E is for this year, and other things to.
Enormous, extravagant and energetic for sure.
F is for frantic as in Lets Get Hustling,
G is for gas-guzzling and such a large grille. Its sure this car wont run on a pill.
H is for handling, where this Chrysler is hot, though some still insist that it really is not.
I is for those inches, square cubic and linear.
J is for Jaguar drivers, who avert their eyes. You’re faster? Lies, all lies!
K is for King of the Road, because that’s what you are.
L is for luxury motoring, a bit out of our line. Its also for loose door handles
Which rattled and shook.
M is for mirrors, inside and out. One dips automatically, clickety click.
The other’s adjustable without stretching your back.
N is for no ticket, when you’re on Autopilot.
O is for outer space where you might want to fly it.
P is for power, and push buttons, too.
Q is for quality, in details it’s lacking
R is for rear end, which is typically Chrysler
Changed from last year’s, its no hit, more a bunt.
Why cant it be different, just like the front?
S is for steering, ridiculously light. On smooth roads once used to it, it works out alright.
T is for transmission, Torqueflite by name. Its also for tyres, which suffer and scream.
V is for velocity, absolute maximum. Its figure is such, we didn’t dare, much.
W is for wits, which we’re now at the end of,
X, Y, and Z are the ones we cant think of.
