Hi
Seen today on the M62 eastbound near Leeds 45596 Bahamas.
Possibly on route from Ingrow to Tysley, according to the KWVR site Tysley have the contract for refurbing it. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

I thought you may be interested in a rare locomotive photo. It's of a former main line greyhound, a Precursor, on branch line duties in 1947.
The locomotive was withdrawn from LMS service shortly after the photo was taken.
The original of this photo was first shown, I believe, in "The Great Days Of The COUNTRY RAILWAY" by David St. John Thomas.

Hi
Because I have added some show details on that board I just thought I would bump this thread, there are some pictures from Steeple Grange on page 2 and I will upload some from today at Wirksworth (Ecclesbourne) and Steeple Grange once I have them on PB.
A gate guardian, power unit in storaqe,
and now Wirksworth.

Hi
I have a puzzle for our rail enthusiasts.
I found this on Google maps when looking for something else.
http://tinyurl.com/nva8zqd
There appears to be a train and a separate engine on the same track within about 60m of each other, either side of the bridge. I suppose it is possible that it is 2 different passes of the satellite but usually you can see the join in the mosaic when that happens. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

The train appears to be stationary, but there's no obvious reason for it to have stopped just there. Follow the line down the page and there's a junction, but it's a long way down - I'm not all that familiar with modern practice, but I'd hazard a guess if it was a signal stop it would be roughly equivalent to a distant signal in the old days. This, then, is suggestive of the train having broken down, so perhaps the unidentified blob on the other side of the bridge is a light engine sent to attempt recovery? Granted it would make more sense for it to be approaching from the other direction, but in these days of "rationalised" track layouts it might be the only way to tackle the problem without causing even more disruption. |

Hi
I think I might have found an answer.
I looked further back northn and at about 6km, just short of Worpkesdon Station there appears to be a flood crossing the tracks.
The multiple unit will be 3rd rail electric. would a flood that far back have disrupted the power whereas a diesel or diesel electric light engine could have got through? _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Hi
I remember hearing some years ago about a system for changing the gauge of a train on the move.
I have now found video of it in action.
I'm quite surprised by the speed at which it is done.
The first video shows it in action but if you let the follow on one run as well it has an animation of the actual mechanics of the system working.
I know this is a modern video of the operation but it dates back to the late '70s into the '80s

That is quite remarkably fast. I have been on a train in Spain running from Algeciras to Bobadilla with more primitive rolling stock and it took awhile to make the gauge change but I was even surprised how quick it was back then.

Details, Penman, details!!!
Never seen the like before but I'd say it's on a 3' gauge line. Ex County Donegal Railway(s?)? |
