I have just had a Google for the Burtle run. £30 entry puts me off, add fuel and drinks/food on to that and its an expensive day out.
I understand people need to raise money for charities etc but I dont think the entrants should be having to give so much. Most, if not all of our Military and Commercial shows/runs are free to enter and we all give generously when we are there. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

yes i think £30 is a bit much, a few of the local club members will not pay to show a car and quite frankly unless it is a few quid neither will i for a show, but will pay a bit more for a run.
i have details of a run at othery in sept with a pig roast at the end if you want it. |

Yes, I agree with you all. Two week's back I was invited to partake of a rally for a cancer charity. Over 100 miles to get there, £50 entry fee (plus "voluntary" donation), take your own picnic, 100 mile rally, and another 100 home again. It meant getting up at 5am to arrive for signing on at 7.30 too. I calculated the cost of the day at over £300. I voted with my feet. |

Yesterday I saw a Bedford TK, and shortly after, a Morris Minor. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

I can understand the reluctance to pay for entries to static shows where your cars are the attraction that pulls in the public, I stopped doing those years ago and instead take part in driving events.
I've just joined the HRCR (Historic Rally Car Register) and entered some of their Scenic Tours, we've just got home from the first one that was organised by Bath Motor Club and ran for about 95 miles around south Gloucestershire and north Wiltshire.
Despite incessant rain it was hugely enjoyable even with its £80 entry fee. We covered 550 miles over the weekend, the Riley ran perfectly apart from a little electrical 'niggle' due to the rain. We've another one next weekend, local this time, then a weekend off followed by another trip to Wiltshire for a Devizes Motor Club event.
Can you tell we've missed driving the Riley during lockdown....?
ETA: en route we spotted a Rover 2000 Estate, a dozen or so Morgans, a magnificent pre-war/Edwardian something or other, a ERF lorry, a Morris Traveller and a MG 1100. _________________ David

Saw a nice Austin 7 box saloon out in the sunshine yesterday, unfortunately we had to take our 9 year old for a PCR test this afternoon and on the way we passed a lovely 1920's Motorcycle, it was also nice to see the rider dressed per the original era! _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

He had knee high laced brown boots, wide yellow pantaloons and then a checked waistcoat, flowing red scarf, very small helmet and was wearing racing goggles!!
Thought it was Biggles...
Nice to see someone making an effort. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |
