Nice to have all that history, now the dilemma of how to restore it sympathetically Confused ....will you maintain the rear windows, or were they original?

You might say that a vehicle needs wax oiling underneath but this takes the biscuit.
How can the Mot inspector make a proper judgement about the bodyshell underneath this lot.

The original wheels and tyres had been on the van so long the tyres had perished.

I had a set of wheels beadblasted, prepared, sprayed in 2 pack paint and new tyres fitted sitting in the corner of the workshop,so these were fitted.

Even the insides of the hubcaps were caked in grease and waxoil.

Well it's immaterial now isn't it?

Hi Gresham, a nice addition to your fleet of very well maintained cars!!
This week I saw a green A30 saloon in a similar state and still being used!!

By the way I have sent you a couple of private messages with regards to the zenith carb you mentioned you've got stored, the one needed by a friend of mine for his vauxhall.
Are you still up on the offer of selling it?

Sorry for delay in posting a reply on this article, only just found it.
In a previous life as an apprentice mechanic at Ralph Hardy & Co in Halifax,I used to spend Sundays riding with the Boss in his Rolls Royce Silver Cloud to Bassets garage as he was the owner .
We would have a pie and a pint in the local pub and then I would depart behind the wheel of a MK4 Zodiac or even a new Jag that had been supplied to a new customer in Halifax.
Great days, a seventeen year old behind the wheel of such cars and driving through Glossop and over the tops into Huddersfield.
Life didnt get much better then.
Regards to all. Phil.

I took her out on Saturday for a good run,the first real trip apart from up and down the drive to try things out.
She drove very well, just shows how well the van was cared for in the past before being laid up in a garage.

Apart from servicing her nothing has been done to the van, apart from removing all the waxoil and preservative from the paintwork.

I have left her in that original look, I normally fully restore my vehicles upon purchase but thought better of it this time.
I have noticed at shows during the past year more vehicles are turning up in barn find or garage found condition.
Makes a change from full blown restored vehicles.

Hi totally agree Very Happy , any vehicle can be restored, but there are very few left in original condition and still roadworthy . Last year at a car show in Manchester the Morris register had 4 cars, 2 restored and 2 unrestored (including my Z van) and a Series E. The unrestored vehicels got far more attention than the nice clean polished restored stuff Very Happy.
They are the 2 on the LHS of this pic;

The J Type van has gone a while ago.
It`s new owner was going to restore it for use at country shows etc to promote the owners organic farm business.
