Flew from RAF Birchanger to RAF Seletar, Singapore in one of these in 1963

This photo was taken later in 1963 at RAF Kuching from our Gun site at the edge of the runway

Apologies if I've posted the above links somewhere previously but there are some great images and they do bring back memories to me especially of Prestwick albeit from the 1980's. I wasted more than a few hours there waiting for the few transatlantic visitors that trickled through a great but underused airport.

I smiled at Norfolkjohn's comment regarding the Bristol Britannia being a quiet aeroplane. We migrated to Australia in one in 1967 and it took me about three days before I could hear much again!

We left Heathrow and flew via Dubai, Colombo (Ceylon), Singapore, Darwin and landed in Melbourne 42 flying hours later! It was an ex-troop carrier on contract to the Federal Government, complete with backward facing seats!
