The paper was a temporary measure to stop any hot grinding sparks marking the glass.
All of the paint is being removed,I can then start afresh with the body preparation, priming and finish coats.
The bodywork and doors are in remarkable condition.
The only areas of body work needing attention are...
Front offside wing below indicator.
Front nearside wing below indicator.
Rear panel offside above wheelarch.
Front wing offside around wheel arch.
The metalwork had small holes ,and was getting thin in places,so wanting the van to last another 50 years I thought it best to cut out the offending panel work and start afresh.
I have now cut out the metal and let in new metalwork over the weekend.
Austin A30/A35 wings in very good condition are hard to find, and if you do can fetch up to £300.00 each.
So the most economical way is to repair the wing, mine only wanted small repairs so was a no brainer really.
For a cheap car I find parts expensive for the baby Austin, compared to the Morris Minor.
I would not waste my time repairing Morris wings, they are so plentiful new and second hand.
And brake parts for the Morris are so cheap it is best to throw old parts in the bin and replace with new.
Austin cylinders at £70.00 each are worth repairing if you can.

You don't half work quickly. I have been at that stage with bodywork for months. Looking good. |

The Austin Van has now had some progress made after my other projects distracted me from it for the last month.
To get the body work as straight as possible she had her curves massaged three times.....primer then flatten, primer then flatten and finally more primer and flattening.
She was then ready for her finish coat.
I have finished her in the original colour of County Cream.
The paint I used was Dupont Elite 2 pack solid.
The interior will be painted also.
