We stumbled across an interesting pile of "The Motor" magazines a few days ago, on sale in a bric-a-brac shop. They date in the main to 1948 and 1949. Although I'm not short of old magazines, they had to be bought nonetheless.

These early postwar Motor magazines were full of advertisements, a few in colour. Wonderful.

I have been collecting The Autocar and The Motor magazines wherever I could get them. They were rare in the Netherlands. Each year at Beaulieu I bought many copies.

The internet changed it all and now every copy is available on Ebay it seems. I made a spreadsheet of the content of the copies I have, how many pages of the road test of what car, what advertisements, what special reports, etc.
I also have a full range of Motor test yearbooks from 1951 to 1973, and Autocar from 1951 to 1967 (missing Spring 1965 though!).
Plus the yearbooks from Motor Trade called Servicing Guide To British Cars volumes 2 to 8 (missing volume 1!). These have tech descriptions of current cars and trucks and components.

But- like with every collection: What purpose does it have?
I started it because I was hungry for information and background information, now most can be found on the internet which probably is a good thing. So now i am not sure what to do with it.... It will probably stay on the shelves for years to come.
