While mooching about an antiques emporium, I found the following BOAC airline ticket dating to 1955. The flight was London to New York, flight 509, departing 20:00hrs 26th March. The fare - one way presumably - was £142-18s-0d.
The flyer was a Mr Kendall, I wonder what his thoughts on jet travel were given how the Comet crashes were still very fresh in people's minds at the time?
Has anyone here ever flown by Comet, or have memories of it?

Well I did some work on a Nimrod simulator which was derived from a Comet. It was incredibly old-fashioned. I seem to recall the flight engineer controlled the throttles, but may be wrong. We were all surprised it wasn't fitted with wicker seats |

Hi
If anyone wants to see inside a Nimrod there is now one at Manchester Airport Visitor Centre.

It is possible to park in some lanes outside thus avoiding the parking charges.
From Sunbank Lane turn left here http://goo.gl/maps/XoLPv onto Wlimslow Old Rd, the visitor centre is down the road to the right at that X roads. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

used to have them a few times a week into RAF Kuching Borneo in the 1960's.
Our hut was lit up by one one night as he tried to come in across the runway, sudden full power climb out, shook the billets and deafened us for a few minutes.
Had one leave empty about 0200hr one morning after engine change, took off and and almost did a wing over with a steep Vulcan style climb out.

Rick,
I flew in one from Glasgow to London in the late 60s (probably a 4B) when I lived in Canada and was heading back. I had this 'thing' where I wanted to fly every current model of plane currently flying so I would arrange my routes to take in as many diverse planes as possible.
The only thing I remember that stands out in my memory was that we got put in a holding pattern because of fog earlier at Heathrow (que'll surprise) and if I had been a spy I would have been in my element. We flew over and over a RAF base with Victor and Vulcan bombers all lined up in rows.
