Can anybody find an earlier motorised ice cream van than this Flatnose Morris Cowley? Looks to be about 1926-28.

Hi
My granddaughter wants to go to her prom next year in an ice cream van, goodness knows why.
Are there any smart Ice Cream Vans based in or near Swindon which might be suitable. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

I remember this from Barnsley in the late 1950's, but he didn't come to our area.
We had "Pickles", I remember him having a Bradford, with the oval rear windows. It was a one man business and had disappeared by the mid 50's.
There was also "Hastelows" |

Thanks for that peterwpg. I have never seen that before. Pictures of working Bradfords are few and far between. |

Hi
North West Tonight carried an item about a Guinness Book of Records winning convoy of 84 in Crewe today. Many modrens of coursee but there were some older ones as well.
The current link is still the live one but it will be available on iPlayer later.
If you are outside of the NorthWest just change regions to NorthWest; on PC the change conntrol should be top right hand corner under My Programmes.
If you can't wait, this clip does show an old one at the head of the convoy.

Hi Mike,
If you look back at the first page of this thread you'll see different photo of that "van" along with another unusual ice cream van run by the same shop.

This June while on holiday with our grandboys we saw a couple of Range Rover 6x6 ice cream vans on the beach at Tenby. Unfortunately no camera.

There was a little road that headed away from the water and passed under the railway line, but the bridge was so tiny that there was a 7ft limit warning. I was heading north, the ice cream van south and I flashed my lights and sounded my horn to warn him, but to no avail. The Moggie 1000 based ice cream van arrived at the bridge, but a flat bed came out the other side. |
I remember that low, narrow bridge, too. The cafe you mention is still next to where VT used to be but it's called 'Mother Kelly's' which is one of the best fish and chip restaurants and take-away in the country and has won prizes in the past. It's been there for years. I lived in the area for about 20 years but no longer. The factory opposite the chip shop was, if I remember, Smith's Crisps. (I don't remember CANDA) That's now a housing estate! Further, east along the road was Johnson & Johnson's factory. That entire area has changed a lot. You may not recognise it now... |
