Back in the late 60's when I had several Minis and a reputation for the fastest, cheapest clutch and primary oil seal change, it was not uncommon for neighbours to bring around their cars for oil changes, new brakes, engine rebuilds, all that simple stuff. One neighbour came around with a recently acquired 105E for me to look at the brakes. Brakes were the least of his problems. Polythene sheeting, albeit from heavy duty fertilizer bags, numerous criss-cross applications of Denso Tape ( a firm favourite in the coal mining industry) topped with a bitumastic compound that must have been troweled on hot now formed the inner wings between the front wheel arches and the passenger compartment. It was early winter and I was a little surprised to find that although the "Repair/Bodge" may not have had a great deal of mechanical strength, both foot wells were as dry as the desert, albeit the original and likely sodden sound insulation had been replaced with a heavy flowery patterned carpet. Regret..... looking back, not having digital photography at zero £0.00 per photo. He kept the Anglia for several months before the centre crankshaft bearing threw a "wobbly" and he traded it in as a "non-runner"... [/img]

Roy, your mention of greas and brakes brought back a memory from 1996. One of our party touring France had the most godalmighty squeal from the rear discs. I managed to catch him in time the next morning though. He had jacked the car up and was about grease the discs to stop the racket
