yes i noticed collet was the wrong eay round after i took photo
i do fit it the right way round when re-assembling

Bob,

I can only suggest that when you replace the spring you bend the leading edges in slightly to avoid the chance of them digging into the sleeve or the washer. IIRC the spring had closed coils at each end. Don't do the SFS ones have a closed loop?

hi Art
decided to get a recon starter and so far touch wood,it seems to spin over alot faster without problems
i think old one was a bit tired to turn over a rebuilt engine

just got to get engine running right now!! I'm really losing the will with this car
