New cars have a gradual fade where stonechip is used on the bodywork; how is that achieved when masking please?

You can use off the shelf soft edge masking tape, you can also achieve the same with ordinary masking tape, by sticking one edge of the tape on the panel, then stick tape back on its self (you have kinda created a hollow tube with the tape.
