Rescued a 1920s/1930s Eccles trailer from imminent scrapping today, more to follow ...

10 minutes following lunch were spent cleaning up a 1920s/1930s Wesco oil can that I retrieved from the skip next to the (new old) trailer that I picked up on Saturday. It works a treat, and around 50% of the paint remains. A few old oil pourers were also retrieved from an uncertain future at the same time, and given a once-over today Smile

Spent some time today cleaning up the brake pipe banjos and other brass connectors and began fitting the brake lines. I picked up a new set of armoured cunifer pies for the TC at a reasonable £95... but the flexible hoses are a different matter.! This morning I ordered a set of 3 stainless braided pipes from the club which set me back £75! (swings and roundabouts I suppose)

I also ordered a few other brake fittings as the original ones are missing from my car.

If I had my way then anyone would be able to rescue items from the local tip with out hinderance. You might have to sign a disclaimer but that would be all.

Another thing I would change is drop all the charges. People should not be discouraged from taking their unwanted stuff to the right place..... rather than dump it in our lane!!!!

Hehe it wasn't a council-run tip, just a lone skip that the trailer's owner had hired for a couple of weeks, into which he was depositing surplus "clutter" from his garage Smile

I've been stripping down an old Stromberg carburettor, in case it gives and clues to the starting problem I was describing recently. I've developed a taste for it now, and intend to strip the carbs from the car soon, if nothing else so that I can clean them up.

I did discover that there are some very fine holes in the choke / cold-start-assist area, and a couple of valves that could easily be clogged up. I also discovered that one of the chaps in my Vauxhall club was the person who worked at Vauxhall calibrating the size of the holes in the choke disc when the cars were new.

Unfortunately, other than the choke, there are no miniature holes that could have become clogged that might provide an instant cure.

Well not today but Sunday I took my car to the Bicester New Years Scramble for the first time. It was nice to not be the only Jensen-Healey at an event I was joined by a nice Red one.
