Lots more A40 fettling on Saturday and Sunday, mainly revolving around the o/s/r lower body areas, cutting out old metal and making a start on repair panels for them.

Took out a bank loan and bought the oil pressure sender. £70 including carriage. I'd tested the wiring with a bit of wire and a bulb, and all was well and I put a small screwdriver in the spade connector and shorted it across the block, causing the oil pressure gauge to go off the scale, so it was definitely the sender. Modern spares are of such abysmal quality.

Not working on the cars today but I spent an hour or two clearing the mess outside our shed we rent.

It has become simply a dumping ground of various bits of vehicles or wood or general clutter. The space cleared this morning could fit a small car in! Next job now that the local recycling centre is open again is to take all the bagged up rubbish up and get rid of it!

after not getting consistant presure on my consul brakes i bit the bullet and changed the shoes, master cylinder and the 1st brake pipe, as the old one would not come out of the old cylinder, it just rounded off.
the supplier of the new brake pipe set had a male to female as the 1st pipe, but mine is male to male and is steel and has not been replaced as the main junction is also orginal, try as i might i could not get the new pipe fitting into the junction, in the end had to take the union off and fit it on the bench.
luckily all the other 3 fittings came out ok as they were replaced a while ago i reckon as the rest of the pipework is copper. 2 hours it took for a 5 min job normaly.
bled the system and it now gets consistant presure not just after a pump.
i find the constant getting under the car and getting back up doing my back no good at all, i really could do with a ramp but not enough room, am i getting too old for this lark!
oh well now for the road test tommorow and brake adjustment.

Spent a few hours today dusting down and testing out my MIG welder, the wire was exhibiting signs of corrosion and wouldn't feed cleanly through the nozzle, so the wire was replaced, and it seems to work ok now. I just need a bit more practice.

Thats something I need to do Rick, find out the old MIG and give it a service.
The last time we used it the wire feed kept coiling through the rollers and clogging it all up. It was getting very hit and miss.

I don't seem to achieved much over the last week or two. I've had my plating kit set up, have managed to do some items that I've had hanging around for a while, but that should be something that can happen in the background. I've put it away now, so hopefully I can focus more next week.

after seeming to get the brakes to work well on the consul i just need to bleed the rear when a loud popping sound heralded the annoucement of a blown wheel cylinder so had to change that as well, luckily i had a spare and and had to bleed the whole system again, now we are getting somewhere.
old cars and old bits eh!

Finally got the old oil pressure sender off and dug out the replacement. I had taken the precaution of ordering another spare and they are different one from another. The original type has the spade connection in the middle and the new has it near the edge, just like the XJS one. my original spare is marked 60 psi and the new one isn't. Although it is marked "Made in UK". Oh, and the nut isn't the same size strangely.

My 46 ERF lorry is completely stripped and all the good stuff is stored inside on shelves etc. Outside under a very heavy old sheet I keep all the parts that are only good for patterns.

This morning I started sorting through parts to sort of make a list of whats what. I found the seats, well very rotten wood and enough metal left between the two to make patterns. For the time being I have put them inside and will now measure and draw up the metalwork and try and get it made at work.

Sound like you are going to have your hands full for some considerable time. Best of luck!

Back on the welding again. This week I cut off the nearside rear wheelarch and repaired the inner arch, and now I'm ready to get the outer arch cut back to fit. Not surprisingly, I've found a section behind the arch that needs repairing before the arch can go on.
