Hi all,

Over the weekend, we visited a number of junk/collectables emporiums. In a tiny owner-run shop, amongst stacks of uninteresting plates/mugs/thimbles etc, was this re-painted jack, bearing the Ford script on it. The price was very reasonable, so home it came.

My question is - does anyone know which model it'd have been supplied with, or for? It's quite a hefty old thing, made in cast iron, with a (possibly non-original) slide-in handle which isn't shown. It works well, and the top has a hinged fitting, as if the hinged item is designed to slot into something. It can also be used with the hinged item folded down out of the way.

I've included a mug to give an idea of scale. I wonder if it's a little large for a car, which makes me wonder if it was designed for the Model TT or AA lorry, rather than the T or A cars? Or possibly a tractor?

As it happens, many of the early Ford castings were produced by the Dodge brothers prior to them founding their own car company, so perhaps there's a Dodge link here!?

Only two reference numbers are visible, 17/2 in the section that the handle slides into, and 17/1C beneath the horizontal gear.

If nothing else it gives me chance to peruse the worryingly-interesting car jacks website: http://www.classic-british-car-jacks.uk/Ford_Jacks.htm

A few similar jacks are on US ebay, but their descriptions are a little woolly so don't really pin down the vehicle this one was designed for.

I do believe that your jack is for a Model T. I have a very similar one but it looks a bit larger than yours and bears no brand. Very similar jacks were available for the A. Mine has had extensive use when I had my model A.
The flip top is to gain more height with the jack prior to lifting. Usually one would need the flip folded if jacking for a completely flat tyre, but the top up if jacking a wheel with an inflated tyre.

Post a photo on the MTFCA Forum, and experts there will soon identify it.

Interesting, thanks, I posted photos on to a Model AA Facebook page so I'll see if that turns up anything concrete.

I think this one will be a paperweight - I wouldn't want to scratch the paint after all Wink Wink I've plenty of similar (but not Ford) oily ones for using.
