Yes Peter, that's the site. Amcott House - the Georgian building with double gables - can just be seen to the left of Central garage in the 1966 photo.

Ray,

These are oldish photos all at different locations. I don't know where any of them were.

Here's another photo of SSs in happier times.

Peter

Cumberland Bus Services.

Not my picture, but brings back great memories as a youngster going to Carlisle bus station to catch one these to go to Silloth (Out Local Seaside Town 22 Miles away) The double decker would pull into Wigton 11 Miles from Silloth.

Don't know why but this double decker only went as far as Wigton, then you had to change to a single decker, If the double decker was full it was a mad rush to get on to the single decker. If you did not get on you had to wait till the single decker came back from Silloth. Good Days.

Hi Penman.

Great web site thanks. Brings back lots of memories for me. Ribble. Western. United. Blair & Palmers. Standerwick. All ran from or through Carlisle.

Many Thanks.

B.

Thanks Rootes but I must admit that none was taken by me.

That said I can add another couple that were taken by me but they don't really fit the "old" in the thread title. Both taken 10 years ago.

Neither belonged to me. The first photo was an SS Jaguar DHC that had lain in a bog for years. Note the steering wheel still exists above the water line but not below. This "car" was being auctioned at a Jaguar spares day that I went to.

The sad instrument panel was on a spares "car" at a Jaguar restorer's premises.

I didn't receive spares from either on them.

Peter

Here's a few more images scanned from slides I got in a job lot. I didn't take any of these.

Hi
#4 shows the Yarn Market at Dunster.
I feel I ought to know the Ship Inn and the parking among the rocks, but can't figure them out at the moment.

Edit.

The Ship Inn is Porlock Wier.
