|
|
Hi,
We have just had our Thomson Clan 1200 1978 renovated but I am struggling to find an appropriate stabiliser. We intend to tow with a 2017 Audi with a retractable swan shape tow bar, but Audi’s design means that I cannot attach a TC car plate (to connect the stabiliser into).
Can anyone help and advise please? I’m new to this caravan lifestyle and don’t want to have to sell my own car (that is not big enough to tow) just because the tow bar on our family car is an odd shape!
Many thanks. |

Hi
google "Stabiliser swan neck bracket".
I would expect most stab makers would have one to fit. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

I don't tow a caravan, but do have cars on a trailer and a set of nose weight scales was a great investment, getting the weight right on the ball makes one hell of a difference to stability.

Hello all,
Many thanks for all of your advice. We’ve decided to go stabiliser free and travel keeping a careful eye on the weight. A nose- weight scale is on my shopping list.
Thanks again, and have a fabulous summer.

In the Military, it's referred to as 'preponderance'......yes, don't ask me why either! |

Yes..I know......but tell that to Mr Army?
It seems to me there were prior military claims to the term, ''nose-weight''...perhaps from the horsey lot?
They have a bit of kit called a ''Preponderance meter''....a spring loaded, slightly telescopic pole with a small platform, inserted under the towing eye....the jockey wheel then wound up...pointer needed to be within certain parameters for correct nose weight. Max wt. being 75kgs [down-force on towing pintle]....at least, for a TUL/TUM L/Rover!!
Odd lot, the military.... |

We always had a stabiliser with our old Fawn when we got the Nyala only towed it once without one and hubby did not like it as he could feel the difference so got the attachment fitted _________________ 1968 Volvo Amazon estate (Gracie)
