Hi All,
I would like to use some kind of coating to seal parts of the timber body frame of my 1935 Armstrong Siddeley before I refit the metal body panels. What have people used to seal the timberwork - paint (what kind), some specialised coating, I've heard of blackboard paint (why???).

I am specifically concerned about the timber around the windscreen, with the openings for wipers, the hinged windscreen etc.

Any first-hand experience most valued.
Regards,
Paul.

Hi Greenbeam.

The best to use would be a clear "Thin" spirit based wood sealer, as this would soak into the timber, Sadolin do a range of wood stains in clear and colours. try and put as many coats as you can even more on the cut ends and it will soak in. If you use water based sealer this would bring up the grain.

Cheers. Bill.
