MIA HQ, 22 OCTOBER 2018 – The Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) is urging thousands involved in motorsport across the EU to write to their MEPs and local governments to demand changes to a proposed new EU Directive (MID) that could cause all motorsport activities to become illegal in the EU.
In December, just six weeks away, MEPs and representatives of EU governments will vote on the newly-revised (May 2018) Motor Insurance Directive (MID) from the European Commission. The text, unless amended, threatens the future tens of thousands of jobs and motorsport businesses across the EU.
This latest review follows the “Vnuk” ruling made by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in September 2014, which requires all EU Member States to ensure compulsory unlimited third-party liability insurance is carried by anyone using any form of motorised transport, in any location – including motorsport.
The specialist insurance market for EU motorsport has told the MIA and European Commission that NO INSURANCE, is, or will be, available which meets these compulsory demands. So when this new Motor Insurance Directive (MID) is put into the laws of each EU State, as no insurance is available, it will be illegal to compete in any motorsport.
To save the EU motorsport industry and jobs, the MIA, the global trade association for motorsport and high-performance engineering, has launched a social media campaign urging all EU motorsport companies and individuals to contact their local government and MEPs demanding the text of the MID be changed.
Using dedicated pages on www.the-mia.com/VNUK and an extensive campaign on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, the MIA is calling ALL motorsport stakeholders to act before 1st December 2018 and make motorsport’s voice heard in the European Parliament and the Council of the EU before the crucial vote.
Chris Aylett, MIA’s CEO said: “This is a genuine, serious threat to all EU motorsport. No one involved in motorsport - companies, employers and organisations can afford to ignore this. A strong clear message, demanding the text be amended, must be sent NOW to MEPs and European governments. The MIA website provides all resources needed to take action - just a few minutes to copy the template letter and send this to the relevant EU contacts listed. If the new EU MID is unchanged, the unintended consequence of this legislation would end of a sport enjoyed by millions, close down tens of thousands of motorsport-related businesses and destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs, across the EU.
This sounds unbelievable but unfortunately it will happen if we fail to act now!” _________________ Rick - Admin

yes, another red tape descision which will affect the smaller end mototrsport.
just because some hot shot lawyer managed to get his client some cash for an accident on private land.
i signed it ages ago, sadly it could wipe out many off road sports if it is passed into law. |

Isn't this also the case that could lead to everyone having to insure any powered vehicle they own (eg golf buggy, ride-on mower, project car, etc) regardless of whether it even runs or is complete? Or was that something else?
