It goes without saying, 6th June D-Day. We will be remembering all who served in any capacity and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

We are very proud of them all.

Indeed, at least one great uncle of mine was involved during the landings specifically.

Both of my Grandfathers served in Africa and then Italy so I have no direct connection, my Wife's Grandfather was a truck driver and landed on D-Day +5.

We are proud of them all and they are all remembered.

My Mum worked at the parachute factory near Woking. She did her bit. I can't even begin to imagine the amount of sheer effort involved in supplying all the parachutes for D day.

My Dad trained to the level of Corporal with the air defence cadet corps but was rejected by the RAF because he had had rheumatic fever. As an engineer he found work making auxiliary fuel tanks for Spitfires. When empty they were jettisoned over the Chanel - and some still turn up in fishermen's nets to this day.

Both my parents have now sadly passed away.
