Hi all,

On Sunday I headed down to Gaydon to visit the big 60th birthday bash for the classic Mini. For once I was a passenger attending a show, here in a friend's highly rorty (ie deafening) and very spirited Mini.

All manner of classic Minis and Mini derivatives were present, from countries far and wide. Also in attendance were many different variants of the Metro, being the direct descendant of the original Mini and originally planned to be its replacement.

BMW MINIs were also there in large numbers for some reason, and it was unfortunate that they were intermingled with the classic examples in the parking areas, thus diluting the overall effect somewhat.

Still, it was a good bash, and here are a few photos of Minis, Metros, Mini-based kit cars, and a few other old gems spotted around the place for extra variety.

Photos taken within the Gaydon museum, the reserve collection, and also in JDHT's display area, will be added later.

Is that an XK100 I see in this?

We were scratching our heads a bit about that one, yes. Were many of these units built?

I don't think so. In "Jaguar the engineering story" I get the impression that you could count them on the fingers of one hand. There seem to be various versions too. "A series of at least three engines were run, the first two having 3-bearing crankshafts and the last one a 5-bearing crank."

The Goldie Gardner engine had a 5-bearing crank.

I suspect that the engine in the Mini might have considerable interest to Jaguar historians/collectors if it were put up for auction.

Love the Tiger badge on OMA178H.
Displaced from a Leyland Tiger coach of the 80's.
