JOIN THE GOLD RUSH FOR 2020 SILVERSTONE CLASSIC TICKETS!

• Super Early Bird tickets on sale offering significant savings
• The perfect Christmas present for any car lover
• Golden Ticket prize draw for all those purchasing on 25 October
• Full spectrum of crowd-pleasing retro races to return

Tickets for next summer’s special 30th anniversary Silverstone Classic go on sale on Friday 25 October with significant Super Early Bird savings for all those booking in 2019. Not only that, but for those purchasing their 2020 tickets before midnight on launch day, there is the not-to-be-missed opportunity to win an exclusive ‘Golden Ticket’.

The ticket launch comes exactly two months before Christmas – a bonus for seeking the perfect festive gift – and nine months ahead of next summer’s milestone Classic, the provisional dates for which are 31 July to 2 August.

A wide range of Super Early Bird tickets – priced at exactly the same level as last year’s Super Early Bird tickets - will be available for those purchasing before the end of the year, representing savings of up to 25 per cent on the price of Standard tickets. Super Early Bird adult admission starts from just £35, with the price of the three-day weekend ticket frozen once again at £99.

As a further incentive, all those booking 2020 tickets before midnight on Friday 25 October will be entered into a special draw with the chance to win a ‘Golden Ticket’ with benefits ranging from a hot lap around the full Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit on the Classic’s Preview Day to a ride in a course car during the event. There’s also the chance to win a Black Ticket, courtesy of the event’s tyre partner, Yokohama HPT, with the winner receiving a full set of tyres.*

Full details of the on- and off-track family entertainment will be announced in the coming months but, as usual, the flat-out family fun at the Classic will include an unrivalled line-up of retro races, record-breaking car club anniversaries and special live music celebrations on both Friday and Saturday evenings for those rocking and racing at the Classic’s 30thanniversary event.

The Classic sets the standard when it comes to showcasing the cream of global historic track action with close to 1,000 race entries dating back to the glorious heydays of Formula One, GT, Touring and Sports cars and, by popular demand, many of the regular crowd-pleasers will return in 2020.

Well-loved grids already confirmed include a pair of blue riband FIA Masters Historic F1 races; the Yokohama Trophy for FIA Masters Historic Sports Cars; the Historic Touring Car Challenge, and the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy for Historic Cars’. The packed grids of pre ‘66 Minis, which proved so popular last summer on the iconic car’s 60th birthday, will also make a welcome and exciting return.

All tickets – which must be purchased in advance – will give access to both Classic racing paddocks, all open trackside grandstands, the live music concerts, fun fair rides and the vast majority of the family entertainment on offer.

Full details of all ticket prices – including Parc Fermé and Clubhouse hospitality packages, the RetroRun and camping – can be found at: www.silverstoneclassic.com.

DATE CONFIRMED FOR LANDMARK 30th ANNIVERSARY SILVERSTONE CLASSIC.

• Next summer’s Silverstone Classic verified for 31 July - 2 August
• Special anniversary three-day festival all set to be the best ever
• Packed retro race programme features cream of international historic racing action
• Two more great crowd-pleasing grids confirmed for 2020
• Feast of off-track activities and entertainment for families of all ages
• Super Early Bird tickets still available… but only until the end of December

Next summer’s Silverstone Classic is now confirmed for the weekend of Friday 31 July to Sunday 2 August.

The date had already been announced but remained ‘provisional’ until Formula One’s governing body, the FIA, formally ratified its 2019 calendar at yesterday’s (4 December) meeting of its World Motor Sport Council in Paris.

With the British Grand Prix at Silverstone now rubber stamped for Sunday 19 July, the Silverstone Classic can officially take its traditional place in the calendar a fortnight after Formula One headlines at the home of British motor racing.

Taking place at the start of the summer holidays, the hugely-popular three-day Classic is expecting over 100,000 attendees plus a star-studded line-up of drivers – more so having avoided date clashes with other high-profile UK motor sport events such as the British Touring Car Championship and FIA Formula E’s intriguing London E-Prix.

What’s more, though tickets have been on sale since October, festival-goers who were waiting for a verified date can still take advantage of the Super Early Bird offer available until the end of December.

These Super Early Bird tickets offer significant savings of up to 25 per cent on Standard tickets. Adult admission currently starts at just £35 with the price of the three-day weekend ticket frozen at £99 for the six year in succession. Full details of all ticket prices – including Parc Fermé and Clubhouse hospitality packages, the RetroRun experience and camping – can be found on the silverstoneclassic.com website.

With the date for the three-day car-themed extravaganza now set in stone, full details of the on- and off-track family entertainment will be announced in the coming months. These will include the full roster of magical races, record-breaking car club anniversaries plus the ever-popular ‘rocking and racing’ live music on both Friday and Saturday evenings.

Now entering its landmark 30th year, the Classic always sets the international gold standard when it comes to showcasing the cream of global retro racing action with more than 1,000 entries dating back to the glorious heydays of Formula One, GT, Touring and Sports cars.

Five of the Classic’s regular crowd-pleasing grids have already been confirmed for the outstanding 30th anniversary festival: FIA Masters Historic Formula One; Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy for pre ’63 GT Cars, Yokohama Trophy for FIA Masters Historic Sportscars and Historic Touring Car Challenge as well as the return of the Classic Mini Challenge which proved such a sensation when introduced in 2019.

Two more stand-out grids can now be revealed for next summer’s special 30th birthday celebration: Masters Endurance Legends for dramatic sports prototypes and the International Trophy for Classic GT Cars (Pre ’66) – a highlight which always attracts an over-capacity field of E-types, Cobras, Elans, Healeys and other racy GT icons from the early sixties. More evocative races will be revealed soon, too!

Visitors are also offered the chance to share in the milestone festivities. A special 30thAnniversary Celebration package offers all owners of pre-1990 classic cars the opportunity to purchase two adult weekend tickets, a vehicle display pass with parking in a dedicated anniversary infield display area and a special anniversary track parade on Friday on the hallowed Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.

SILVERSTONE CLASSIC TO MARK ITS 30th ANNIVERSARY WITH 'GREATEST HITS' RACECARD

• More great retro races confirmed for milestone 2020 festival
• Five iconic grids from 1990 recreated to honour Classic’s unrivalled heritage
• Popular returns also for Historic F2 and Transatlantic Touring Cars
• Early Bird tickets still on sale offering significant savings
Celebrating its 30th anniversary in splendid style, this summer’s special Silverstone Classic (31 July – 2 August) will feature a spectacular ‘greatest hits’ showcase of magical retro races.

Harking back to when Silverstone hosted the UK’s first-ever race meeting dedicated entirely to historic racing – a trend-setting milestone in motor sport history – no fewer than five of the grids for 2020 announced today (Wednesday), actually featured on the original 1990 racecard.

Thirty years ago the pioneering two-day festival – staged, as today, two weeks after the British Grand Prix – presented a wide-ranging 12-race programme including showdowns for historic Grand Prix cars, 50s’ sportscars, historic Formula Junior, SuperSports as well as round 4 of the FIA European Challenge for Historical Touring Cars (1990 photos left column below. Credit: John Colley top, Alan Cox middle and bottom).

Saluting all five of those, this year’s Classic includes evocative races for the Historic Grand Prix Cars Association for both front-engined and rear-engined GP cars from 1925 to 1966 (photo right column top below), the combined Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy and Stirling Moss Trophy fields of 50s’ sportscars (photo right column middle below), Formula Junior (photo top below), Thundersports (photo right column bottom below) and Under 2-Litre Touring Cars (photo above).

Many of the iconic cars that made history when competing in 1990 such as Alfa Romeo GTAs, Jaguar D-types, Maserati 250Fs and mighty McLarens from the epic Can-Am era will all be back at Silverstone together with several of the drivers who contested the innovative trail-blazer in 1990. These are likely to include John Pearson (who raced a Cooper Jaguar in 1990), David Cottingham (Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta in 1990), Ian Nuthall (Cooper Bristol in 1990), Simon Hadfield (Ford Lotus Cortina in 1990) and Formula Junior doyen Duncan Rabagliati (Alexis HF1 in 1990).

Such has been the incredible popularity of historic racing with both the public and competitors, that this year’s 30th anniversary Classic will boast more than 20 races, some even for categories such as Masters Endurance Legends that post-date the original game-changing event. History after all never stands still!

Moreover, many of today’s sought after grids now feature more than 50 starters… and it is little surprise that two of those brim-full crowd-pleasers are also added to the far-reaching 2020 roster.

The HSCC’s new Historic Formula 2 Series (photo bottom below) made its debut at the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival in 2019 with a record-breaking grid of 56 single seaters dating back to the era between 1967 and 1978 while the Transatlantic Trophy for Pre ’66 Touring Cars also attracted a full-capacity field – both return as part of this summer’s birthday celebrations.

“With three more decades to honour, plus a growing love for all things nostalgic, the historic racing scene has enjoyed incredible growth since Silverstone hosted its very first festival back in 1990; the core ingredients of great cars and sparkling action are still very much at the heart of the event,” said Nick Wigley, Silverstone Classic CEO.

“It was always our ambition to mark the 30th anniversary with a terrific feast of ‘greatest hits’ races, and to have both cars and stars from the original 1990 Classic back on the bill for 2020 will just further enhance the celebrations of what’s an important milestone in motor sport history.”

With the announcements made in late 2019 of the popular return in 2020 of FIA Masters Historic Formula One, the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy for Pre ’63 GT Cars, The Yokohama Trophy for FIA Masters Historic Sports Cars, the International Trophy for Classic GT Cars (pre ’66), the Classic Mini Challenge and the Historic Touring Car Challenge, the race line-up is now almost complete!

All admission tickets for this summer’s 30th anniversary Silverstone Classic must be purchased in advance and all provide access to a selection of trackside grandstands, live music concerts on Friday and Saturday evenings, huge car club displays, both racing paddocks plus the vast majority of the fun-fuelled family entertainment on offer at the ‘rocking and racing’ festival.

CHART-TOPPERS HEADLINE AT THE CLASSIC'S 30TH BIRTHDAY PARTY

• Aswad and Scouting For Girls turn up the volume at the Classic
• Friday night is ‘Nineties Night’ with Brand New Heavies headlining
• Record numbers now staying for full festival weekend
• Early Bird weekend tickets on sale until the end of March

The annual Silverstone Classic (31 July – 2 August) is renowned for its unrivalled roster of retro races but is equally loved for its mouth-watering array of family entertainment, crowned with rousing live music concerts staged at sunset on both Friday and Saturday evenings.

The live music has become one of the high octane show’s many major highlights and, with more and more fun-loving visitors of all generations choosing to spend the entire weekend at the Classic, a true festival atmosphere is fuelled. Even more so as the live music is included with all tickets.

In recent times, a number of notable bands have enthralled visitors including Santana, Status Quo and UB40. Now, with the Classic celebrating its own 30th birthday, this year’s cast certainly won’t disappoint revellers.

Hailing the Classic’s early days, Friday night will be ‘Nineties Night’ with bands reviving a boom decade that boasted every kind of music from grunge to Britpop.

Pearl Jamm, the finest Pearl Jam tribute band in Europe, will get the evening started – a doubly appropriate pick as, like the Classic, the American grunge icons were formed in 1990 and the Classic is, of course, marking its pearl anniversary in 2020.

Getting everyone in the right party mood, Britpop Reunion, the UK’s only professional ’90s tribute band will then play a medley of memorable songs from Oasis, Blur, Pulp, James, the Stone Roses and more.

With the party in full flow, The Brand New Heavies will bring the opening Nineties Night to a stirring crescendo with chart-topping tunes including Midnight at the Oasis and Dream on Dreamer. As funk royalty and pioneers of the Acid Jazz scene in the ’90s, the Londoners have achieved 16 UK Top 40 singles and released two double Platinum-selling albums.

Still headed by founding members and principal songwriters Simon Bartholomew and Andrew Levy, The Brand New Heavies are stronger than ever, continuing an incredible 30 year run that’s seen them dominate pop charts the world over and inspire generations of later artists, including Jamiroquai and super-producer Mark Ronson.

Saturday night promises to be equally unmissable with performances from two chart-toppers – Aswad and Scouting For Girls – following a warm-up set by DJ Sterling Moss. Aswad reached the pinnacle of the UK charts with Don’t Turn Around in 1988 while Scouting For Girls had four UK Top 10 hits including This Ain’t A Love Song which reached Number 1 in 2010.

After the huge success of UB40 with Classic crowds in 2018, reggae legends Aswad are certain to be equally popular with partygoers at the Classic – more so as the current line-up still includes two of the band’s three founders: Angus ‘Drummie Zeb’ Gaye (on vocals and drums) and Tony ‘Gad’ Robinson (on bass).

Indie rockers Scouting for Girls have picked up nominations for no fewer than four BRIT Awards, sold out Wembley and performed their infectious pop at countless festivals. “We love making music that connects with people in a really fun, happy way,” enthused vocalist Roy Stride. “We’ve always been an amazing party band – we just enjoy every moment.”

With unmistakable pop anthems such as She’s So Lovely, Heartbeat and Elvis Ain't Dead encouraging fans to sing along in unison, Scouting For Girls are the perfect party band to help celebrate the Silverstone Classic’s 30th birthday bash after sunset on Saturday.

“With record numbers of visitors now staying with us for the full festival weekend, the live music has become a really integral part of the ever-expanding show,” explained Nick Wigley, Silverstone Classic CEO. “The Classic celebrates its 30th birthday this summer and the outstanding line-up of bands performing on Friday and Saturday evenings will just add to what’s going to be an amazing party atmosphere. It’s not to be missed!”

Early Bird tickets for the 2020 Silverstone Classic are on sale until the end of March offering significant savings of up to 17 per cent. For those buying now, adult prices start at just £39 with the increasingly popular 3-Day Weekend ticket available for £105. Convenient camping is offered right on the circuit’s doorstep at Silverstone Woodlands.

All admission tickets (which must be purchased in advance) provide access to both race paddocks, trackside grandstands, funfair rides, car club displays and a host of great family activities… plus the live music concerts.

CANCELLATION OF THE 2020 SILVERSTONE CLASSIC

• World’s biggest classic motor racing festival is latest sporting event called off due to COVID-19
• Organisers vow to stage a belated 30th birthday party in 2021
• Ticket holders offered full refunds or option to roll-over for next summer

It is with a heavy heart that the organisers of the Silverstone Classic announce that this summer’s flagship three-day festival – originally scheduled for the weekend of 31 July to the 2 August – has sadly been cancelled.

As the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival, the massive event always attracts unrivalled grids, many thousands of classic car owners and more than 100,000 visitors, many of whom camp out at Silverstone. The nature and scale of the event make running it in a safe, socially-distanced manner a huge challenge in the current situation; and the event’s much-loved family festival ethos also means that running the event behind closed doors isn’t a feasible option.

This summer, the pioneering Classic had massive plans to celebrate its milestone 30th birthday with a special ‘greatest hits’ racecard but organisers have indicated that they will carry forward these celebrations to the 2021 event.

“Following the latest Government advice we have reached the inevitable conclusion that we will need to cancel this year’s event,” said an enormously disappointed Nick Wigley, CEO of Classic organiser Goose Live Events. “Given the current circumstances and the unclear outlook on timescales, staging a postponed event – which was our original back-up plan – isn’t something we can plan for with any degree of certainty if we are to deliver the style of Classic that we all know and love.

“I can’t tell you how sad this news makes me feel. For the last 12 years it has been my life’s focus to build the Classic into the most amazing family friendly classic racing festival, the biggest – and many people think the best – in the world, but our priority at all times is the safety and wellbeing of those attending our events – as well as our own team – and we know that Classic fans will understand why this step has been necessary.

“As an independent events company passionate about what we do, we are so proud to have developed the Silverstone Classic into an internationally renowned historic motorsport festival enjoyed across generations of car enthusiasts, families, racing drivers and petrolheads.

“In times of difficulty, communities tend to come together and we’re incredibly grateful for everyone’s continued support. It means a lot. The passion of those coming through our gates is what makes the event the success that it has become and we are now already looking forward to celebrating our delayed 30th anniversary with everyone next year instead.”

The record numbers who have already purchased Super Early Bird and Early Bird tickets will be offered the option either of rolling over their tickets to the 2021 event or requesting a full refund.

INVITATION TO JOIN THE SILVERSTONE CLASSIC'S ONLINE 30th ANNIVERSARY PARTY

• Celebrations switch to online platforms post pandemic cancellation
• Three decades of highlights shared on social media
• Public invited to send in their own ‘Classic Moment’ message
• Provisional 2021 dates announced for postponed birthday party

In just a few weeks’ time the Silverstone Classic will be celebrating its 30th birthday with three days of outstanding moments from the last 30 years shared online… and, in true Classic style, everyone is invited to join in the celebrations.

The flagship event’s anniversary had been scheduled to run between 31 July and 2 August before the COVID-19 pandemic forced its cancellation. Now, over the same weekend, fans around the globe will be able to enjoy many wonderful highlights from the past three decades via the Classic’s social media platforms.

Moreover all-comers, whether retro race competitors, car preparers, trackside volunteers or the many millions of classic car owners and enthusiasts who have helped to create the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival, are encouraged to share details of their own magical memories to be included in the online celebrations.

“We are inviting everyone to send us short ‘vox pops’ detailing their own personal favourite Silverstone Classic stand-out moment from the past 30 years,” explained Nick Wigley, CEO of Classic organiser Goose Live Events. “Perhaps it was one of the fantastic races, or meeting a motor sport hero, or dancing to one of the great live bands, or joining one of the amazing track parades or just cherishing a great day’s family entertainment – we’d love to hear from everyone.”

All those wishing to contribute to the Online 30th Anniversary Party have until Friday 17 July to record and relay their ‘Classic Moment’ messages. Full details can be found here on the official website: silverstoneclassic.com/anniversaries/your-classic-moment.

Contributors are going to be spoilt for choice, too. Having fuelled the now hugely popular genre of race meetings dedicated entirely to evocative historic motor sport, the Classic today features unrivalled grids of much-loved legendary F1, single-seater, sports, GT and touring cars from past golden eras.

It also attracts a wealth of racing royalty. Stars such as Sir Jackie Stewart, Nigel Mansell, Derek Bell, Murray Walker and the late Sir Stirling Moss have attended Classic events in the past, sharing their own memories with delighted visitors. Others like BTCC champions John Cleland, Tim Harvey, Jason Plato, Matt Neal, Gordon Shedden, Rickard Rydell and Colin Turkington have all regularly renewed their old rivalries on track.

Top bands including Status Quo, UB40, Santana, Mike and Mechanics and The Stranglers have also fired up the crowds when performing their chart-topping hits of yesteryear.

While the captivating ‘Rocking and Racing’ will certainly be in many memories, others will undoubtedly remember some of the incredible circuit parades organised in conjunction with passionate car clubs as their own highlights. In recent years, the Classic has witnessed world record numbers of Jaguar E-types, Ferrari F40s, McLarens and Jaguar XJ220s as well as spectacular on-track cavalcades of Minis, Porsche 911s, Bentleys, Mazda MX-5s plus a host of other esteemed automotive treasures marking their own marque and model milestones.

“It’s so hard to know where to start when choosing a highlight,” admitted Wigley. “I’m guessing we’ll get an incredible range of these ‘Classic Moments’ ranging from mega races to sharing an unforgettable beer with a long-lost mate at the Scarf & Googles pub.”

The dazzling Online 30th Anniversary Party will be shared across the event’s YouTube and Facebook channels and – as well as ‘Classic Moments’ and past highlights – will also include live online classic, competition and automobilia sales from Silverstone Auctions. A full timetable will be confirmed shortly.

Looking further ahead, a provisional mid-summer date of Friday 30 July to Sunday 1 August has been announced for next year’s Silverstone Classic. Embracing all of the ‘Greatest Hits’ party attractions planned for this summer plus a multitude of other exciting innovations, the delayed 30th anniversary celebration will more than make up for lost time.
