I've just moved house, not far but one thing I didn't check until a month before I moved was the broadband availability...bad news the maximum was just 1Meg Sad I registered with Openreach to get updates as to when I might get a better service. In the mean time I looked at other options such as using a 4g router with external aerials. Then some good news; fiber had just been laid in our road, so I can now have fiber to the house (FTTP) with 300 Meg upload Smile

A date was fixed with BT to install the fiber; 3 days after the move...then on the day of said install I get an email from BT putting the install date back by 6 weeks, as they need to put a 2M duct in from the road to our premises Surprised
As I work from home I need broadband, so I revisit the 4g option, after checking which mobile operators provide a reasonable signal in my area (and walking round the house with my phone).; I've purchased a 4g wireless router with an external aerial, together with an unlimited data SIM on a monthly contract (£32 per month)
Using https://www.mastdata.com/ I can find where the nearest mast is and roughly point the external aerial in that direction from the ground floor, thinking I may buy a pole to raise the aerial...
Its been in for a week know, I have done multiple speed checks, and the slowest upload speed has been 18 Meg, it averages about 32Meg Very Happy do I need the BT fiber service?

Yes I will get the fiber service, but the 4g service has exceeded my expectations, if you are in an area with poor broadband this may be a solution for you.

We're on BT too but I've never bothered to check our speeds.

More importantly, how's the garage situation at your new abode?? Smile

I'm using a 3G mobile broadband dongle at the moment, but have just discovered that my network (3) do a 4G deal for about 35% lower cost, with double the monthly usage limit. When I remember, I'll switch it over. I'm always a bit dubious about switching things, I presume the networks are better at cancelling the old than starting the new. Probably unfounded these days.

Our broadband is truly awful, we used to be with BT but are now with PlusNet. Just recently we can't even watch BBC iplayer etc without buffering. We have to turn all our phones off to do that! It is terrible.
