My maternal Grandfather grew up in the village in the late 20's/30's and agreed it was very difficult times for them. I recall him saying he used to attend school barefoot as they had no money for shoes. As the decade went on he found ways of making money and by the end of the 30's he had enough money to dabble in cars, I do have some lovely photos of him posing with them.
His father had Model T and Chevrolet trucks in use hauling peat products. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

My father used to say that the late 1940's were his favourite times, because there weren't the crowds of people everywhere, roads were quiet and things were generally more leisurely.
He did, however, issue the caveat that this was great until you had either toothache or fell ill! _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction
