Hi
Can't find the Links board so decided to put this here.

If you have already heard of Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels or Lawrie Goes Loco you will know what to expect/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_ECBlfJRso

From memory, one of our Antipodean members might be able to give Lawrie some tips.

Thanks for posting, Penman. I find it rather odd that a fellow who knows nothing about a subject should be trying to inform people about it.

Just some observations- the car was not designed to run on kerosene (paraffin). It could, but only after starting and warming on petrol and there was no proper provision for such action.

His description of controls was very sketchy, he obviously could not properly explain the use of spark and throttle, and made absolutely no mention of the fuel mixture control, knowledge of which is essential for starting and running with any efficiency.

Of course the steering wheel is on the left. It is an American car in America. Incidentally, no mention that Ford was behind the standardisation of that steering position in USA

He used no choke to start the engine, and failed to immediately advance the spark as soon as it started. As the engine ran fairly well, someone out of sight must have adjusted it. He also used his right hand and the way he gripped the handle would have broken his arm if the engine had fired backwards.

No Roads in USA by 1914- What a ridiculous statement!

I gave up watching, and doubt if I could ever be persuaded to view any other episode that he appears in.

Thanks Penman, but it was painful to watch, Dane.
