Today my wife located some postcards that had been packed away for many years. They were acquired because we knew a collector at the time then didn't manage to pass them on.
I have scanned three interesting ones and embiggened as best I could.
First a view of the Club Hotel in Burnie, Tasmania
Now for an enlarged and cropped version-
Here are enlarged images from the postcard of the front of the hospital in Lismore New South Wales
Below is from a much earlier postcard- it was sent from New Zealand, but the date mark is difficult to discern It could be 1907.
The image is of the Manawatu Gorge, which is still a fascinating location to visit even though the road is slightly straighter and now tarsealed.
And now one from London- Marked as 'Hyde Park Corner'

Is that a rather large rock under the car in the gorge?

Peter, it could be a rock, but I think it is actually a shadow, if you are referring to the object near the rhs front wheel., Dane _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

I had driven through the Gorge on many occasions, but left N.Z. permanently in 1972 after the International Rally.
I have just found out that the road through the Manawatu Gorge has been closed since 2017 due to constant land slips.
An alternative route over, rather than through the ranges has been opened up.
A pity as it was a fascinating drive, but probably better for the passengers than the driver due to his need to carefully watch the road.,
The rail connection through the gorge is apparently still in operation.
Dane.
If interested there is a brief history of the road, written in October 2017 to be found here- https://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/97540869/looking-back-at-145-years-of-the-manawat-gorge-road _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

Hi Dane, It was the LHS front wheel I was looking at. The wheel appeared to be obscured by the object. That said, I suspect the object behind the RHS front wheel is a mud flat so I guess there is also one on the LHS and perhaps I'm seeing the flap in the sun and the shadow below it.
Thanks,

I agree, Peter. Both mudflaps one in shadow, one in sun. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |
